We received complimentary service at MOD pizza, however all opinions are my own.

MOD Pizza just opened it’s second Michigan location last month in Northville, MI and I had the chance to check it out a couple weeks ago. For those of you that aren’t familiar with MOD Pizza, it’s a Seattle-based restaurant that offers individual artisan-style pizzas made on demand using organic fresh-pressed dough and sauces and over 30 toppings.

Customers can make their own pizza or salad choosing from more than 30 fresh toppings using any combination they like or they can choose from the MOD classics. Each pizza is cooked in an 800ºF oven in 5 minutes or less and salads are hand-tossed in front of the customer. Also available at MOD are local draft beers, wine, handspan milkshakes, and fresh lemonade and ice teas.

When I first walked in I was really pleased with the overall atmosphere that MOD had to offer, the staff was very welcoming, greeting us from the kitchen upon arrival and it just gave off a nice, laid-back vibe that I really appreciated. It seemed like a perfect place not only to eat but to also hang out with friends or maybe even get some schoolwork done (for me at least!).

There’s a huge menu posted on the wall along with smaller menus you can pick up and you can choose to get a classic MOD style pizza or create your own. They also have a really neat pizza salad which is basically a salad with your favorite ingredients on a warm asiago pizza crust. I didn’t try it, but I heard that it was delicious and definitely an option I would try in the future.

I was at MOD enjoying lunch with my friend Sarah and son Zach and when we ordering we were explained the entire process of creating the MOD pizza from choosing what crust we wanted, the sauce, ingredients, cheese, and extra seasonings. Our pizzas were passed along like an assembly line style which I thought was great because it was very efficient and you can literally see your pizza being created through the entire progress. They ask for your name and then into the 800ºF oven it goes for about 5 minutes! The entire process is REALLY quick which I love.

Sarah got the Tristan pizza which is mozzarella, asiago, roasted red peppers, mushrooms, and pesto. Her pizza looked amazing and she said it tasted delicious, too. Zach got the Maddy which I was surprised he actually finished because he usually never finishes pizza! He loved it.

As for me, I choose the Dillon James which was mozzarella, asiago, fresh chopped basil, garlic, sliced tomatoes, and MOD red sauce. Of course I left out the tomatoes, but the pizza was so delicious. What I loved most about it was that the crust was actually substantial enough to hold all of the toppings without falling apart. I’ve had this style of pizza at two competitor restaurants and the pizzas are always a let down for me because the crust literally falls apart. I was really surprised when this one didn’t and the pizza tasted really fresh, too which is so important.

I loved how crispy it was, the cheese was perfectly melted, the ingredients were fresh and the addition of the basil and garlic added such a great flavor. We were also able to try the cinnamon strips that we dipped in chocolate, strawberry, and cinnamon glaze sauces and all were delicious– definitely a must! They also have available garlic strips and various salads to choose from (or you can create your own!).

The food is served on plates not trays and the staff members were very sweet and would constantly be around the restaurant cleaning up and making sure everything was in order. I honestly think MOD pizza is going to be such a huge success in Michigan because of how convenient it is. The entire process of ordering and receiving your food is so quick, I would say it is no longer than a 10-minute complete process depending on the line. This is such a great option for lunch especially because when you’re short on time but really want something satisfying and substantial, MOD is perfect.

While it’s mostly a pizza/salad menu there are still a lot of options to choose from and the best part is that all of the pizzas are set at one price. There are three size options for the pizzas, however each size remains one price no matter how many toppings you choose. You don’t pay extra for extra toppings! I repeat: you don’t pay extra for extra toppings! Get as many toppings as you want! (:

Seriously, I think of the three restaurants I’ve tried with the same concept MOD Pizza is the clear winner. I will definitely be going back and I am so very excited that they will be opening more locations. I am still routing for them to open one on campus at Wayne State University. Wink, wink. Nudge, nudge.

If you're looking for a great place for lunch (or even dinner), we had a great experience at MOD and I'm sure you will, too!

TEAM Schostak Family Restaurants (TSFR), a Michigan-based family-owned restaurant group announced that the restaurant would open on August 14th, 2015 in Northville and to celebrate, they hosted an all-day “Pay What You Want” fundraiser with proceeds benefiting Main Street League’s mission to make a difference in the local community. TSFR announced their plans to bring 25 MOD Pizza restaurants to Michigan during the next 5 years. The first one opened in Livonia in June 2015 and a third location will be opening in Rochester last this year.
