I'm Heading to Los Angeles for the Red Carpet Premiere of Queen of Katwe! #QueenOfKatweEvent
I was invited by Disney to attend this exciting event. Travel and accommodations are provided by Disney, however all opinions and excitement are my own.
In less than one week I will be heading to Los Angeles with Disney and ABC for a truly amazing experience! Details are still be finalized, but we will be walking the red carpet for Queen of Katwe, and celebrating the releases and season premieres of the ABC’s American Housewife, The Middle, and Once Upon a Time!
I will be attending the Red Carpet premiere of Queen of Katwe coming to theaters September 23, and I couldn’t be more excited! From the first time I watched the trailer of this incredible movie, I knew that it was going to be on that will inspire people of all ages and I am so honored to be part of such an amazing event.
Queen of Katwe
In case you didn’t know, The Queen of Katwe is actually based on the true story of Phiona Mutesi and her mentor and coach, Robert Katende. A story about perseverance, determination, and hope. A story that takes place in the rural streets of Uganda where living in the slum really tests your limits, Phiona is introduced to the game of chess and with the support of her community becomes an international chess champion.
While we are in Los Angeles, not only will we be interviewing newcomer Madina Nalwanga (who plays Phiona Mutesi), David Oyelowo (who plays Robert Katende), and Lupita Nyong’o (who plays Harriet, Phiona’s mom)– but we will also have the chance to interview the REAL Phiona Mutesi and Robert Katende as well! We will also have the chance to interview the actor who plays Phiona’s younger brother in the film, Martin Cabana and hopefully the director herself, Mira Nair.
I’m currently reading The Queen of Katwe: One Girl's Triumphant Path to Becoming a Chess Champion and I’ve actually teamed up with a group of bloggers also heading to the premiere to give you a chance to win a Queen of Katwe Prize Pack! Two lucky winners will receive a copy of the book as well as an amazing chess set! Be sure to check it out and enter to win.
While we are in Los Angeles, we will have the chance to go behind-the-scenes of the new ABC series, “American Housewife” as well as, “The Middle”– how exciting! American Housewife will be premiering for the first time on Tuesday, October 11th at 8:30/7:30c and The Middle will be premiering its 8th Season (Wow!!) on Tuesday, October 11th at 8/7c.
American Housewife
American Housewife stars Katie Otto, a confident and unapologetic wife and mother of three who is raising her family in the wealthy town of Westport, Connecticut surrounded by “perfect” moms living in their “perfect” world with their “perfect” children. Katie’s perfectly imperfect world is upended when her neighbor’s decision to move notches her up from her ideal social standing and sets her on a path to ensure that doesn’t happen– no matter the consequences.
The Middle
Two-time Emmy-winner Patricia Heaton stars in this warm and witty single-camera comedy about raising a family and lowering your expectations. Middle-aged, middle class and living in the middle of the country in Orson, Indiana– Frankie Heck is a harried wife and mother of three who uses her wry wit and sense of humor to get her family through each day intact. Frankie works as a dental assistant, and her unflappable husband, Mike, is manager at the local quarry and her sardonic partner in the daily grind that is raising their average – yes, most definitely average – family.
Once Upon a Time
“Once Upon a Time” returns to ABC for its sixth season, Sunday, September 25 (8:00–9:00 p.m. EDT). In the season premiere episode, “The Savior,” as our heroes set out to stop Hyde, Emma develops a mysterious side effect, and Storybrooke becomes a haven for refugees from the Land of Untold Stories. Meanwhile, Regina and Zelena embrace their newfound sisterhood by becoming roommates, while Rumple tries to free Belle from the sleeping Curse with the help of a stranger. In flashback, Jafar confronts an afflicted Aladdin in Agrabah, and a secret about the Savior is revealed.
We will be among a selected few to get a sneak preview of the Once Upon a Time Season 6 Premiere, “The Savior”! We will also get a chance to have a Q&A with the co-creators and executive producers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz. My family is obsessed with this show, so this is very exciting!
The Real O'Neals
This was a last minute addition to our itinerary– how exciting! While we are there we will also get to visit the set of The Real O'Neals! This show is absolutely hilarious, I can't wait. Here's what you need to know about the new season premiering on Tuesday, October 11th at 9:30/8:30c.
The O’Neal family continues its journey of self-discovery and growth, resulting from Kenny coming out and his parents, Eileen and Pat, getting divorced. After finally coming out, Kenny will discover that life outside the closet isn’t that easy. Luckily for him, his older brother, Jimmy, will always be there to offer his often-misguided advice. And finally, there’s Shannon, the youngest O’Neal, whose unique views on life make her wise beyond her years. Eileen and Pat will continue to deal with starting their separate lives while still living under the same roof. Through it all, Aunt Jodi will be there offering her unusual brand of support, as the O’Neals continue to explore new relationships, friendships and acceptance of one another in the next, messier chapter of their lives.
