Growing up with four brothers, sports were a pretty big deal in my family. The majority of us played sports during high school, including myself. Whether it was football, track, swimming, volleyball, soccer, or basketball– we were always playing some kind of organized sport or watching it on the TV together.
Now that we are older, we like to spend our weekends catching up when we can. We get together at my sister’s house usually and watch our favorite teams play during football season. We celebrate football season like it’s a holiday at my house. There is a lot of laughter, arguing over plays, and food.
We don’t always have a lot of time to prepare things if we’re meeting up at the last minute, so I like to make something quick for us so we don’t miss the kick-off.
Cheesy Chicken Jalapeno Toppers
These spicy chicken and cheese jalapeño toppers are the perfect appetizer to kick things off. They take less than 15 minutes to make and are so delicious! To make these all you need are RITZ original crackers, diced chicken breast, cheddar cheese, and jalapeños.
Cook the chicken using your favorite seasonings and then once they’re cooked, add a generous amount of cheddar cheese and stir to combine. Scoop about a tablespoon of the mixture to each RITZ cracker and then top with a sliced jalapeño. They are spicy, cheesy, and delicious.
Homemade BBQ Sauce
We usually have pizza and chicken wings during half-time, but this time I decided to make my own BBQ dipping sauce of our chicken wings using Coca-Cola! My siblings loved it! It was so easy to make and you just need a few ingredients to pull it off.
To make this BBQ dipping sauce, you will need: 1 cup of Coca-Cola, 1 cupc of ketchup, 1/4 cup of Worcestershire sauce, 1/2 cup of steak sauce, 4 tablespoons of brown sugar, spices (1/2 tsp each of black pepper, onion powder, garlic powder and 1 tsp of paprika). Combined all the ingredients in a medium sauce pan and bring to boil, then simmer for about 10 minutes and let it cool. Serve with your favorite chicken wings and get your tastebuds ready for a touchdown!
The easiest way to bring my 7 siblings together is with football and food. We host watch parties all the time and we’re usually always divided when it comes to which teams we want to win. I think it makes things even more entertaining and of course, I never pick a side.
I remember when my brothers were playing varsity football in high school, we would always be on the sidelines cheering them on. So it’s nice for us to all get together and cheer for our favorite teams now that we’re older. I think it’s the best way to create new memories with each other now that we no longer play sports.
I shopped at Kroger and found everything I needed to create these delicious recipes. You can find Mondelez products in the crackers isle and you can find Coca-Cola in the soda isle. It makes it easier to get what we need for our game day watch parties when we can shop for everything in one place, it helps us save so much time.
