Behind the Scenes of American Housewife!

I was invited by Disney to attend the #QueenofKatweEvent and #ABCTVEvent. Although all expenses were paid, all opinions are my own. 14568155_1835390516740436_2079790441790755314_n

While I was in Los Angeles for the red carpet premiere of Queen of Katwe, we had the opportunity to go behind-the-scenes of the new ABC comedy show, American Housewife starring Katy Mixon!

We were able to watch the season premiere of the show beforehand as well, so going behind the scenes and meeting the cast was so exciting! I have high hopes for this show because it is HILARIOUS and if you’re a mom like me, then I know you will enjoy it too because it is so relatable.

American Housewife stars Katy Mixon as Katie Otto, Diedrich Bader as Greg Otto, Meg Donnelly as Taylor, Daniel DiMaggio as Oliver, Julia Butters as Anna-Kat, Carly Hughes as Angela, and Ali Wong as Doris.

We got to go behind-the-scenes of American Housewife and meet some of the cast members while were there, it was pretty awesome. I did not realize or appreciate how much really goes into the show until I was behind-the-scenes. There were SO many people all working on different aspects such as lighting, sound, makeup, camera, directing people, and so on. It was very hectic but it all seemed to flow so naturally.

They were filming on set and while we were watching them play out the scenes, it was nice to take everything in around me. The actors went through their lines a few times and had to shoot the same scenes several times before moving onto the next scene. For me, I thought each take was spot-on, but the director would want something slightly different each time whether it’s an emphasis on a certain word or a different gesture to be used.

I always thing it’s really cool to watch a scene directed and shot in person because when you watch that same scene on TV later on, you have more appreciation for it and you can see it from a different angle. I’m excited to see where this scene will play out in the season!

While we were visiting the set, we also got to meet Ali Wong and Carly Hughes who were so nice and funny! I really like their characters on the show, so meeting them was fun. Later on we also got to meet Katy Mixon and Leslie Bibb. They were SO NICE. I can’t say that enough, Katy’s energy is just so inviting and welcoming and loving and I was totally swooning when I met them.

American Housewife “The Nap”

In tonight’s episode, all Katie wants is a good, long nap after the kids keep her up all night. Every moms dream, right? Story of my life. But, when Greg gets the flu, she doesn’t get a minute to herself. Her exhaustion reaches critical mass with a confrontation with the school’s officious crossing guard (guest star Kate Flannery, “The Office”).
