5 Ways To Protect Against Sunburns + Giveaway!
Thanks to Meijer for sponsoring this post. All opinions are my own.
Summer is officially here and we’ve been celebrating with a lot of fun activities, events, and outdoor fun! Although it gets pretty hot and humid during the summertime here in Michigan, that doesn’t stop us from spending time outside. A few days ago we went to the Waterpark and the kids had so much fun! But before heading out the door, I made sure to protect their skin with Coppertone sunscreen.
It’s important to protect your skin from the harmful rays of the sun, and children especially are more prone to sunburn if you’re not taking the proper precautions. Here are some tips to help you and your kids stay sunburn-free this summer!
Plan when you’ll be out in the sun.
Ultraviolet Radiation from the sun is strongest when the sun it at its highest peak in the sky, between the hours of 10am and 4pm. If you plan on being outside between these hours, then you need to plan ahead of time to protect your skin.
Wear thin, lose layers.
Before heading out, make sure you wear thin loose layers that will protect your skin. White reflects light, so if you’re wearing white that’s a bonus!
Sunscreen can protect your skin against the harsh radiation of the sun. Sunscreen with a high SPF is great to use when you know you’ll be outside, just make sure to reapply it as needed (every 2 hours or so). We love using Coppertone for our sunscreen needs. They provide a wide variety of SPF and come in different options like lotions, sprays, after sun protection, and for babies as well.
It is so important to stay hydrated all summer long. If you’ve ever been dehydrated than you know how dangerous it can be to your health. Staying out in the sun for too long without drinking water may lead to dehydration, so make sure to always have a bottle of water in hand while you’re enjoying your time outdoors!
Use Coconut Oil.
Coconut Oil is rich in antioxidants which does a great job of battling free radicals in your body, lowering the risk of cancer. Not only this, but coconut oil is also a natural anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antiviral– making it a great candidate for protecting your skin before, during, and after sun exposure. I like using coconut oil after being outside as it can treat my skin from sun burns.
Let’s face it, no one likes getting sunburnt. And on top of that, sun damage can have harmful affects on your skin in the long run. You don’t want to be over 80 years old wishing you had been protecting your skin “back in the day”, so start doing it now! It’s really easy and with products like Coppertone, you’ll be on your way to protecting your skin against sun burns in no time.
