Zach starts Kindergarten next week (I start classes today, eeeep!) and that means I need to bring my A-game when it comes to our snack solutions. Being in school while my little one is also in school is so weird to me, but I’m slowly getting used to it. I keep thinking about his baby days and now he’s in Kindergarten. The years have gone by way too fast!

Last year, Zach started preschool and it was an all-day program. He would get to school at 8am and I would pick him up around 3pm and although they served breakfast, lunch, and had a snack after recess– he was famished by pick-up time. I would pick him up from his classroom and he would always, always, always (and almost immediately) ask me what was for dinner or if I had any snacks in my purse for him.

While I did usually have some snacks for him in my purse, it was always inconvenient for me to keep snacks lying around in the car. I would be driving and he couldn’t reach them, he would ask for help opening certain ones or he would be digging through my purse distracting me– it just didn’t work.

So this year, I’ve come up with a snack solution that will work for both of us this upcoming school year. This snack storage solution for your car will help you stay stress-free when picking up your kids from school. They will be able to quickly grab a snack and eat it on the way home while you drive home.

This is also perfect if you have errands to run right after school and won’t have time to go back home for a snack, or if dinner won’t be ready for another couple of hours. They can have an after school snack and satisfy their hunger in the meantime and you can focus on the road.

DIY Snack Pack Storage Solution for your Car

To make this easy storage solution, head over to your local Kroger and pick up some of your favorite snacks. We chose the Multipacks of OREO, Chips Ahoy, Nutter Butter, and Barnum’s Animal Crackers. These snacks are perfect for back to school, especially if your little ones are eating their snacks in the car while you drive. They’re easy to pack and perfect on-the-go solutions that are specifically packaged for a satisfying snack.

Next, you’ll want to grab a bin that you can put your snacks in as well as some organizational dividers. I used this colorful bin because the print was eye-catching and I also used vanity dividers to place inside of the bin. Then all you have to do is place the snacks in each section and place the storage bin behind your headrest in your car. To do this, I just used an old purse strap I wasn’t using and connected it around the handles of the bin.

This is perfect for us because I can focus on driving home after picking up Zach from school and he can have a quick snack on the ride home. This will help us avoid the after school tantrum that comes with hunger during the ride home and will create a fuss-free snacking environment for him. The storage bin is within reach and he can easily grab a snack if he needs to. It will keep him satisfied for a couple of hours until dinner is served as well.

What are your favorite snack solutions?

This is a great idea. I need to try this for our late night taekwondo classes for my son. he could easily get a snack in on the way to his session. We usually have crackers or fruit snacks too.

What a neat idea for storing snacks in the car. Plus it is easy to bring in to refill with their favorite snacks. I wish I had a mom to keep me stocked up on cookies and crackers. Your little one is getting so big and I adore that picture of the two of you together.

Something like this would work great for my little guy on the mornings we have speech therapy. Sometimes,we leave the house without eating breakfast. Yes, I know, bad parenting, but that’s life. Having a snack within reach would fill his belly until we can sit down to a healthier option when we return home.

Not at all, we get busy and it happens sometimes! Don’t beat yourself up over it. Having snacks on hand like this is a great way just in case you do miss breakfast he can have a protein bar or snack in the meantime. <3

We keep an ice chest in the back of our vehicle most of the time. The kiddos are always wanting something to drink and I refuse to pay for convenience store items. This snack storage container will fit perfectly in between my two kids.

First of all, this is SO clever! Love that idea, I’ve been wanting to look for a portable snack solution that wouldn’t make my car messy. Second of all, you are stunning mama! Love that photo of you and your boy.

It always feels like we have a hundred different places to run after school, so carrying snacks with us is important. I’ve always struggled with finding a good storage solution that didn’t end up a disaster. This idea is perfect!

That is such a wonderful idea! It can be so hard to take care of snacks right after school and drive home so have a few options all ready that the kids can choose from is perfect! Definitely better that my current solution which is just one snack stuffed at the bottom of my purse!

    • Aly replied: — September 8th, 2016 @ 10:13 am

Yup! That was definitely my old solution too. The snacks would get all crumbled at the bottom of my purse. haha

Nice–that’s a cute idea! My son is bigger now but I always would try to keep the car stocked with snacks too when we weren’t coming right home from somewhere!
