My Experience at the Red Carpet Premiere for Queen of Katwe! #QueenOfKatweEvent

Thank you Disney for inviting me to the red carpet premiere. Although all expenses were paid, all opinions and excitement are thoroughly my own.

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to walk down the red carpet? Well, if I could sum it up into one phrase: “it’s the Number 1 Spice!”

I was recently invited to attend the red carpet premiere of Queen of Katwe with 25 amazing bloggers. The event was a once in a lifetime experience and although this was my second red carpet premiere, they are all different and special in their own way.

Some red carpet events have pre-parties and some have after parties, some feel very rushed and others feel very laid back and relaxed, sometimes the carpet isn’t even red! I was so excited and slightly nervous because I didn’t know what to expect for this one.

We walked down Hollywood Boulevard which was closed to traffic and where you could see hundreds and hundreds of people lining up just waiting to see the stars. Lucky for us, we got to be on the scene. After getting our special wristbands and movie tickets, we walked behind the ropes on the red carpet experiencing the lights, cameras, and security guards telling everyone to “keep it moving”.

There were celebrities galore! You can tell when an A-list celebrity was walking down the red carpet because it would get louder and more crowded. On the red carpet I was able to spot the cast members of the movie Queen of Katwe including Madina Nawlanga, Lupita Nyong’o, David Oyelowo, director Mira Nair, and more. Everyone was looking especially festive and fabulous for this event.

We were able to take photos while on the red carpet and talk with a few celebrities before we were rushed into the movie theater for the actual premiere, which was amazing! After grabbing our popcorn and drink we headed to find our seats inside the El Capitan Theater. The house was packed and as soon as the opening credits began everyone was cheering! It was such a lovely experience.

I’ll share my Queen of Katwe movie review posted next week but all I can say for now is that you MUST watch it! It is such an inspiring movie that I’ve now seen twice and will definitely be watching again and again with my family. It is based on a true story about Phiona Mutesi, a chess prodigy who finds herself torn between the struggles of her everyday life in poverty and trying to live out her dream of becoming a grandmaster.

After the movie we walked over to the Hard Rock Cafe for the after party which was very exciting. I’ve never been to an after party, at our previous red carpet premiere we had a tailgating event beforehand so this was cool. There was music, food, and a lot of celebrities. So many that being the shy girl that I am, I was so afraid to even go up to them at times.

I was able to meet Jason George inside the El Capitan Theater so I was really excited when he came up to me at the after party to chat and take a photo. I met him two years ago during our first trip when he was on Mistresses so it was so nice to hang out again at this event. I also got to meet Josh Peck who was my favorite growing up and I felt like meeting him made my childhood complete! There I also say Kim Whitley who I love on Young and Hungry and bunch of others as well.

The music was bumping and we saw Lupita Nyong’o and her co-stars all getting down on the dance floor dancing to the hit song from the movie, “#1 Spice” which I thought was perfect! All in all it was truly an amazing experience and I’m so honored to have had the chance to attend. I can’t wait to experience another!

Queen of Katwe opens in select films today! And will be open in theaters everywhere next week on September 30. Be sure to take your family to see it!
