Juice cleanses are becoming very popular and they are a great way to jump start your health and fitness goals this year. Juice cleanses help to get rid of toxins in your body through blends of fruit and vegetable juices that you drink several times a day with no addition of food. This ensures you are cleansing your body through fiber and vitamins that the fruits and vegetables provide.

Thanks to Skinny Limits, I successfully completely my first ever juice cleanse a few days before the start of the New Year, in exchange for my honest review. Skinny Limits is a company that provides juice cleanses that are cold pressed and raw. Their juices are completely natural and are created with the freshest ingredients. Their juices are never pasteurized or processed, so you literally taste the ingredients sip for sip.

I received the Tropical juice cleanse which included 18 bottles of juices that I consumed over the course of 3 days. Each day, I had 5 bottles of juice and 1 bottle of nut milk. That’s it! Oh, and some water, too. I wasn’t allowed to have any food because that would defeat the purpose of juice cleanses.

I’m not going to lie, I struggled with this juice cleanse, especially on the very first day. I’m not used to just flat out drinking juices (I usually only drink water) and to have to drink a juice blend 5 times a day, it was a bit overwhelming for me! I wasn’t expecting the juices to taste extremely weird to me at first, as well. I blame it on my untrained taste palette. I did have some favorites in the pack including “Crescent Moon” and “Green Firefly” and some unfavorites in the pack including “Pure & Simple” and “Balance”.

10 Things You Should Know About Juice Cleanses

1.) Be Prepared!

The days leading up to juice cleanses are just as important to the actually cleanse itself. You need to give your body a mini-break from all the junk you consume on a daily/weekly basis, processed food especially. Before the cleanse, don’t eat processed food or anything deep fried or greasy. This is bad for your body anyway, but you’ll really regret it on the first day of the cleanse when you’re body is flushing everything out! Stick with real food: meats, vegetables, fruits, go easy on the condiments, and drink plenty of water for at least a day or two before your cleanse. Your body will thank you.

2.) You will hate drinking juice after your 3rd juice.

I’m not a fan of juice, at all. I love drinking water, and that’s my drink preference 98% of the time. I’m not used to drinking so much juice, so when after my 3rd juice I literally couldn’t handle it. It was too much fluid for me. I drink about 48oz of water a day, and since I had about 3 more juices to drink that day I just wasn’t feeling it. I wanted food. I missed food. But, I didn’t give up.

3.) Your bathroom will be your best friend.

I had to skip a party during the weekend while on my juice cleanse because I literally had to use the bathroom every hour. I know, that sounds gross, but it is what it is. Juice cleanses are suppose to cleanse your body from the inside out, and trust me when I say the Skinny Limits juice cleanse did just that! I did drink water in between my juices, so that allowed my body to replenish and get rid of toxins and waste even faster. My stomach didn’t churn much at all, but a lot of gas was passed and a lot of time was spent in the bathroom! So, keep that in mind.

4.) You will miss the act of chewing.

Like I mentioned in number 2, I missed food. I missed the act of eating something. Drinking juice is convenient when you want to get in all those nutrients you would generally miss eating solid food, however I just missed that concept. So, I suggest buying sugar-free gum and chewing that when you start to miss that feeling. Chewing gum really helped me get in the sensation of chewing and helped me stay away from solid food while on the cleanse. Give it a try.

5.) Everyone reacts differently.

Everyone’s body functions slightly different from person to person. Some people may experience withdrawal symptoms like fatigue, nausea, headaches, and irritability, but not everyone. In fact, the Skinny Limits juice cleanse actually made me feel 10x better than I was before on the cleanse. I didn’t experience any withdrawal symptoms like I did when I first gave up soda. I had so much energy, I didn’t have any headaches, I didn’t feel nauseous or dizzy throughout the day, and most importantly, I was full. I wasn’t starving, I wasn’t hungry, I was content and I felt great. Everyone has a different experience when going through juice cleanses, but Skinny Limits will help you feel better than you did before from what I can tell.

6.) Drink lots of water!

Water is an essential nutrient for life and while the juices will be doing their job of cleansing your intestines, water will aid in that process as well. Although the juices do a really good job of keeping you full all day long, drinking water in between each juice will remind you that you’re not hungry. Water will help you feel better and look better, too. It flushes out the toxins in your body and helps to maintain the fluid balance in your body as well. I drank around two 16-oz bottles of water each day on the Skinny Limits cleanse in addition to the recommended juices. I felt great.

7.) Not all juice cleanses are created equally.

Juice cleanses differ from brand to brand and that’s something you need to keep in mind. Skinny Limits juices are raw and cold pressed so all the active ingredients and nutrients in the fruit and vegetables are still there when they blend their juices. Their juices also need to be consumed as soon as possible (starting the next day and continuing until your cleanse is complete) otherwise, they will go bad. Juice cleanses also range and there is no set day for how long you should be on a juice cleanse. Skinny Limits offer cleanses that last one day to up to 10 days. The tropical cleanse I was on lasted for three days, and it was powerful. I think I’ll be able to do a more intense cleanse in my future, but for now three is the magic number for me.

8.) It’s expensive!

Depending on the length of your cleanse, it can get pretty expensive. At Skinny Limits a one-day cleanse costs about $49, a three-day cleanse (the one I did) costs about $147, and their most expensive option is the 10-day cleanse which costs about $490. I’m all about spending money on quality, healthy items. This isn’t something I would do often, but twice a year would be enough to keep my body feeling good all year long.

9.) You may or may not lose weight.

Not all juice cleanses claim that you will lose weight after completing them, and they shouldn’t because all bodies are different. Just because someone lost 10lbs on a juice cleanse, doesn’t mean you will too and you have to remember that. On the Skinny Limits website, someone lost 3lbs after completing the cleanse and someone else lost 5lbs, everyone is different. After my cleanse, I lost 2lbs, and while the change wasn’t physically drastic, it was internally. I can’t tell you enough about how different my body felt after the cleanse. I felt… well, cleaner! My insides were happy and it really played a huge role in my energy and overall behavior. Even though the first day was difficult, and I thought about giving up before I went to bed. I woke up feeling more energized than ever.

10.) The post cleanse is important too.

After getting rid of all those toxins in your body, you certainly do not want to put them back in right away by eating everything you can in sight. Pizza, cheeseburgers, deep-fried food? Your body doesn’t need that junk and if you have these soon after your cleanse, I guarantee you will feel worse than before. Skinny Limits suggests a sample diet on the back of the manual that comes with the cleanse that you should follow for 1-3 days after your clean to wean you back into eating normally. Just keep things light and simple for your body to handle.

If you have the dedication to complete a cleanse, then I commend you, because it is definitely difficult. But if you put your mind to it, you can do it.

I can’t thank Skinny Limits enough for this wonderful experience, it’s definitely something you should all try at least once a year. You will feel so much better, and your body will thank you.

Yes, I have but it was hard. I think juice cleanses are best done with healthy food as a complement to the diet.

I would love to do one for maybe a day to start out with. I wouldn’t be able to do the one that had cashews cuz I am allergic to those and peanuts! The rest would might be doable…

This is a great post! Thank you for sharing the real truth about juice cleanses with some great tips. I have wondered what it was really like for a while and you have put me at ease. I think this is definitely something I would consider now.

I think 3 days could be doable and I love the idea of just purchasing the juices and not having to make everything. That is very convenient!

Interesting information. I’ve never actually wanted to do a juice cleanse. IT just seems weird to me. I know I would benefit from it, but I just don’t think I could handle drinking only juice for so many days straight.
