Finding houses and apartments for rent in Michigan can be difficult if you’re looking for the first time.

It can be stressful, time consuming, and can certainly test your patience and budget.

Here are a few things to keep in mind when trying to find houses and apartments to rent in Michigan.

1.) Write it Down!
Writing things down always makes it easier to reference things you may not think about on the spot. Write down everything you’re looking for in the house or apartment you’d like to rent.

  • How many bedrooms and bathrooms would you need to suit your family?
  • Are you looking for appliances already included?
  • Is it a pet-friendly area?
  • What are additional items you might need to pay for (gas, water, heat, A/C, etc)?
  • Is the furniture included, or will you have to buy you own?

Write down everything. That way, when you’re searching you don’t forget something important.

2.) Search Online

Searching online has to be one of the greatest conveniences ever. When we bought our house 17 years ago we couldn’t do that. What a great timesaver.

These are really great tips for renters! As someone who has moved a dozen times, I’ve had to learn a lot of these things the hard way! I’m so grateful to be buying a house this month! :)

Very informative. I really like the last photo and the design of the living room. If an apartment looked like that, I may rent it myself!

Good list! It is really important to write down what you want and take it with you – too easy to get distracted by a beautiful kitchen and not realize that it doesn’t have the 2 full baths you wanted!

Those are great tips for house hunting. Fortunately we own, so we don’t have to do that anymore. But I remember the days when we did and it was great to have resources like these you just shared.
