The American Girl Store Opens at Twelve Oaks Mall!

Michigan finally got its first American Girl store and it opened at Twelve Oaks Mall in Novi.

To be honest, I was not very familiar with the American Girl Store before hearing talks about it coming to Michigan. Growing up in a family of 10, we didn’t really obsess over the latest line of dolls and toys because we were just trying to keep it together haha. The more I learned about The American Girl Store, the more I became a fan and now I can see what the rave is all about.

Last weekend, the first American Girl Store opened in Michigan in a pop-up location at the Twelve Oaks Mall in Novi. This location is temporary and will only be available until January, 2017 so if you are already a fan of American Girl, I would say you need to go check it out as soon as you can!

Walking into the store, I was amazed! There were so many dolls, accessories, outfits, pets, and more everywhere I turned. They carry the popular products such as Girl of the Year, Truly Me, Bitty Baby, and BeForever and it also includes the new line of Wellie Wishers.

The Wellie Wishes are smaller dolls meant for younger children and the dolls all come with their own pair of “wellies”. They have stories that teach younger girls to empower and support each other and they will also have their own web series coming this fall as well so you can follow their stories.

I was really interested in the Truly Me collection because it lets you pick out a doll and customize it so that is just like you (or your friend, or whoever you want it to be like). There are over 30 different skin color, eye color, and hair color combinations you can create so that you can make your doll truly stand out. On top of that, there are so many outfits and accessories available, it’s mind-blowing. I feel like that really thought of everything.

Spending time in the American Girl store really made me fall in love with the brand. The messages that they are giving to young girls is so important– it’s okay to be different, to love and support each other, and that they are special. I honestly can’t wait to bring my nieces back here so they can get their very own doll.

What’s cool about the Novi store is that you can take your doll to the “Doll Salon” for a hairstyle, facial, piercing, and even manicure and pedicure– how cool is that? Not available in Novi, but available in general is that you can even take your doll to the “Doll Hospital” if something is wrong, defective, or missing, etc.

There will be more to come for the American Girl store! They will be releasing their new American Girl, Melody Ellison who is an African American from Detroit living in the 1960’s– HOW AWESOME! There will also be free books available at the Detroit Public Libraries while supplies last as well, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for that.

My youngest has been working diligently to fix her American Girl Doll’s hair. It is out of control. She keeps begging me to take her to the AG salon, but the thought of driving to Boston in the summer doesn’t have me thrilled.

I absolutely loved American Girl when I was younger and I’m debating on when to introduce the product to my youngest. She’s not showing much of an interest in dolls yet though.

I bet a lot of little girls are excited by this. I know my daughter used to be obsessed with American Girl dolls. She had several.

That’s awesome that Michigan finally has an American Girl Store. I live in Chicago (home to the original AG store) and I remember going all the time when I was a kid and matching clothes with my dolls.

This is so cool that they opened one up in Michigan. I am wondering if they will make a permanent location based on the traffic the pop up store receives. Too bad it didn’t come to Michigan before we moved.

These stores are so much fun even as a grown up. I was able to go to one in NYC years ago and had so much fun!
